Lauderdale Springs July 3^d 1862

Dear Sir

My overseer F. S. Kemp of Monroe Co Miss is a Conscript.

I hav kept him from volenteering because it was necessary for some white man to be on my plantation.

I hav been in the Cenfederate service ever since the war bangan Was surgeon of the 21et Alabama Regt, was in the battles of Manassas, Shiloah & Farmington.

I am now in the Lauderdale Springs Hospital, but will be compelled to resign and go home if My overseer is taken. I would therefore respect-fully beg yeu would release the said F. S. Kemp from the Conscript act as long as I am in the Cenfederate Service.
