Is there no way in which I can be of service in the Army I should like very much to have a position of some sort—I see Gen'l Van Dorn urges the drilling and disciplining of all the troops.

If there is anything you can give me to do I shall be glad to hear from you, from my past Experience I know I can be of service.

I think, if Gen'l Van Dorn were acquainted with me he would give me something to do, and perhaps through your influence he might do so.

Hoping to hear from you as soon as practicable.
