Dear Sir

Learning that application would be made you to to discharge from service a member of my company by the name of Danlette I write to request you to decline complying with any such application. This man Danlette is as able to go as any man in the company. But it may be stated to you that his presence is required upon Jn^o Cranes place (he being her overseer); I will say this much that Mr Crane will be in no worse condition than many other members of my company, for there is her relative Mr C Hill who resides quite near but ^who^ will as he has already done give his attention to her affairs; besides Mrs Crane will have but little difficulty in procuring another overseer, who probaby will do as well as this one, and not be half so efficient as a soldier. I write you this from the fact that I see that several applications here [?] already addressed to you to discharge men from any company and which you were kind enough to transmit to me before taking action upon them from [?] applied to me. Whenever the case is of such character as to justify a discharge I will myself recommend it to you and write in the appeals but untill I do so I hope you will as you have hitherto so kindly done, refer them to me
