Gov. Petis. Honored Sir.

Man has the power to ask if refused; though his station be humble in life, he if disappointed must bear it. though disappointment saddens the heart of man, while hope gives consolation; He like all other mortals must pay the debt of Nature and go the way of all the earth; and where grief saddened his heart, and the tears trickle down his eyes, he has the consolation of knowing (if he is a Christian) that there is a house prepared for him, with God the Eternal in Heaven forever, there to dwell while Eternity. shall roll through its countless years. I have a brother in camp near Winchester Va. God bless him I have never beheld his face since I parted with him at Vaughans station, he has been in two battles since he was been out, and if I never see him again God grant that we may meet beyond the grave in Heaven.

I have not means sufficient to go to Va but if Gov Petus will take the trouble to read these lines, and could be prevailed on to give me transportation to Winchester Va and back, he will be be held in grateful remembrance by the undersigned.
