Camp Bogan Feb 24—1863

To His Exelency sir it is with no spirit to dictate that I seat myself this evening to a favor of you and nothing but the emergency of the times could have induced me to have thought of forcing myself into your notice but the danger of another bad crop yeare has emboldened me to ask of you your opinion in respect of sending home the state troops on indifinite furlough or if it would not be better to disband them intirely relying entirly on the conscript law and patriotism of our state or at least the state of my adoption the state the has so nobly responded to every call since the war commenced that her sons are in every part of our loved confederacy the farthers that have so nobly given there sons will in the ower of danger leave but would if returned to the embraces of there familys look on you as a bennifactor and would rally there posts with delight when they had ligst there dear ones noing that that God who has so gloriously aided our caus is the God of Earth and will lead on for though many dear and loved ones have falen and spilt there blood to the tree of libery yet that eye that never sleeps watches ther dust and will restore it in all that youthfull it was want to poses where round the unbroken family we used to meet but alas for the blindness of our foes bigotry has taken posesion of them in the God of battles now is our aid

you must excuse this scrall and believe me yours truly

N, B This camp was named rather in by dirision for a very exentrick private by that name the real name of our camp is camp Harris and if you think worth while to reply to this badly ritten and worse composed scrall my address is Columbus Miss fifth regment forth brigade company E care of Capt Lamkin

my opinion is that of consistant with the rules of war there would be good attained not only to Miss—but to the hole Confederacy but I no that game not capable of judging not having the skill nor ablility
