His Excellency
John J. Pettus

Dear Sir

I have just heard of the fall of Jackson, and of your arrival at Scooba. I confess I was not at all prepared for such news. it has thrown a damper over the Spirits of the people but I do not hink it has Shaken their determination to fight for ~~thair~~ their homes. Please give me Some information as to our further movements. I will come down if you desire it.
