June 9, 1863.

Governor;

I have just received your dispatch of yesterday, asking for arms, et I have replied by Telegraph, as follows, "Have none but sporting Rifles. No arms for you, last twenty thousand cartridges to replace yours sent to Gen. Johnston"

Just before our evacuation of Jackson; I had written to you, anticipating the arrival of your arms, and asking what you desired done with them. Not hearing from you, and Gen. Johnston being greatly in need of ammunition I sent him 21,000 cartridges which had been received for you, along with the arms, which [page torn] afterward forwarded to you. It was [page torn] intention to have replaced there some of [page torn] it escaped my mind to do so. I will [page torn] these as soon as I can get capt [page torn] these.
