To His Excellency J. J. Pettus,

Dr Sir, I have purchased for myself & 31 other familes about 300 bushels of wheat near [?] stg M & C R. R. at 3/pr Bu and have obtained transportation for the same from Mr Janigan of [?] in a [?] I has been impressed by the goverment oficer, I was bought solely for private use principally to sow as there was none scarcly made in this part of the state. Will you therefore give me a [?] [?] we can be relased, and much oblige

Sir

The case of seizure of wheat at Prairie Station by an agent of the Government complained of by J. Lawry having been referred to me by Maj. W. E. Moore Asst. Chief of [?], and also by yourself, I have endeavored to ascer-tain the facts of the case.

Maj. D. H. Curry A. C. T. at Colum-bus, Miss. informs me that one of his agents seized a lot of wheat at Prai-rie Station, belonging to a speculator by the name of Samuel Gathens, some time since. That he has been since informed that one Lawry claims 20 or 25 Bushels of the same. That the wheat be impressed was taken as the property of Gathens and is still at the station.

If therefore Mr. Lawry will apply to Maj. Curry and prove it as his for his own use, he will undoubtedly re-ceive it.
