At the same time and place also appeared before me William B Easley Clerk as aforesaid, James A Martin who being duly sworn states on oath that on the tenth day of October A D 1861, he, as the Deputy of O Basham Treasurer of the State, paid to D. W. Davis the sum of eighteen hundred and seventy dollars in war bonds, upon presentation at the Treasuer ^office^ of Warrant N_o. 1868, of which the above and foregoing is a true copy. He further states that said war bonds at the time he paid them to said Davis, circulated as currency in the Community.

Andrews who being duly sworn states on oath that he is the agent of Harris Waldrip & Montogomery, and has the control of their claim against the State for the sum of $1870.⁰⁰ or any part thereof, to the best of his Knowledge and belief, and that he verily believes that

Professor Eugene W Hilgard, of the University at Oxford, Hold an appointment under me as assistant in the Nitre & Mining Bureau of the Confederate States, has been of essential Service as assistant in Making examinations in this State, and is about proceeding to Arkansas to Make examinations in Mining Lead, you know of his usefullness in taking Care of the Chemical Department during this Interim of the Institution, and will please make application to Maj Clark at Brookhaven for his exemption that he may not
