An agreement made and entered into between Charles Baskervill James Whitfield and A. S. Humphries under the firm & style of Baskevill Whitfield & Co. of the 1^st part and Charles Clarke Govenor of the State of Mississippi of the second part—witnesseth, That the parties of the first part agree to deliver to the party of the second part (30,000) Thirty thousand pairs of Cotton cards and (5000) Five thousand pairs of wool cards at cost price not to exceed one ⁵⁰/₁₀₀ Dollars per pair, and an Invoice of Medicines, Drugs, needles and shears, at cost price in Fedral funds where pur-chased, and in such proportions as the said party of the second part may order. The amount including the Cards not to exceed One Hundred thousand Dollars; and the goods to be deliverd by the parties of the first part to the party of the second part at some Rail Road in the Cars in the State of Mississippi. The said party of the second part is to pay for the Cards Medicines &c when deliverd as aforesaid, at Cost price only in Confederate Treas-ury notes, or in Treasury or cotton Notes of the State as he may elect.

The said party of the second part is to procure and deliver to the said party of the first part a permit from the Confederate Commander of this Department to transport cotton

without molestation by Confederate authorities through our lines, to the lines of the enemy, to the amount of (1500) Fifteen Hundred Bales from any River Landing or port in the said Department, to be transported in delivery of said One Hundred thousand Dollars worth of Goods, or in proper-tion to the amount of Goods delivered—That is to say of any portion of the Goods are deliverd, then a corresponding portion of Cotton shall be transported and so on from time to time in proportion to the amount of Goods deliverd. This Contract may be rescinded by the said parties of the first part at any time before 1^st day of July 1864, but all goods brought in by them before the 1^st day of July next shall be turned over to the said party of the second part. The said party of second part shall also have the privi-ledge of rescinding this Contract on or after the 1^st day of July next, but all goods contracted for by the said parties of the first part, the said party of the second part shall feel bound to take, provi-ded they are delivered by on or before the 1^st day of August 1864

The said party of the second part promises his influence and exertions in securing to the said parties of the first part prompt Trans-portation for the Cottons to be used
