[In?] Camp near Beaties Bluff Sept. 3^th 1864,

Gov Clark Respected sir

This will inform you that Gene Graves, Joseph Nicholson, Thos. Burnett and Euguene Hinton All being in the vicinity of Livingston and men of wealth. Have reported to Cap^t. J^oshua Green of Jackson. and have been permited by him to substitute 10 negro each, in his place I-need not acquainte you with the effect this outrage on the rights of all. and particutarly the poorer classes will have in this region. and wherever it is Known There is another [Board?] gentleman. Geor C. Harris as great a Clerical Ass as ever brayed—who has done less for his country, such charged the poor soldiers higher then any other person in this region, He—has charge of no church, Is. strutting round with a star on his coat claming to be. Division Chaplain. by virtue of an appointment from Gen Jackson in lieu of certain [denings?] given to Jackson and staff-by. his rich wife—whesther he has [galled?] the confederate conscripting officers with said appointment or they have [todial?] to his wifes wealth. I know not, But this I do show that Gen Jackson has no more authority to maKe a Chaplain of any sort—than he has to maKe a Governor. I Know further that since his appointment he has not preached to tho soldiers six times, and made himself so odious by extortion on them that they [advestiseed?] [him?] I Know farther that if you will put him in the sirvice you will do a rightious act—and gratify the whole community, except a few who would sell their country for [lucre?], or shield him from duty because he married an herress. Miss Hellen Johnson, This communication is confidintial as these men are my neighbours and friends But I would inform on my own brother if he dodged his duty in this the hour of much I have been requested by many to write you on this matter as I have been long and personaly acquainted with you I shall be pleased to hear from you addriss, Jackson Miss ,M, Casky Chaplain Woods.
