To His Excellency
Charls. Clark, Govnor of the State of Mississippi

Honored Sir

On the 8^th inst Some of the citizens of this County arested (12) Twelve Diserters from the C. S. Aarmey Belonging as they reprisented to variou[page torn] and pretending to act un[page torn] orders from one Capt. Ke[page torn] Gillums Regiment, whoom [page torn] sent them out to gether [page torn] Horses and Gunns [page torn] through this county Robbin[page torn] and negros of various [page torn] one place they taken [page torn] Branded. H. H. and at another place taken one mule witch was not branded a tables; They also taken one from a furlawed Soldier Branded W. S. at one Place. Mr. John Johnson P they cut up his gin & mill band and coned it off Leaving Mr Johnson in a bad fix for grinding for himself & Neighbors w [page torn] on his mill for their [page torn] They done many other Sep [page torn] as Stealing Blanketts & Sa[page torn] cutting Buttons off of m[page torn] &c too tedious to mun[page torn] brought to M^cNutt and loc[page torn] tell ~~tell~~ Mr. Eli Waites [page torn] of this county could be [page torn] and consulted as to what was best to be done with them. be being Sick and the weather being So verry DisaGreeable did not arive heir till Tuesday the 15^th inst. on his arival he ordered me to Summons a Sufficeint Guard and Proceed with the Prisoners to Grenada, the newest military post and their turn them over to the [page torn] officer whoom he assured me wa[page torn] for all expenses. also a [page torn]

$30 Thirty dollars for Each discanter I Strictly obayed orders Summoned a gord and Proceeded fourth with to Grenada. whitch Place I arived at on the 17^th inst and turned the Prisoners over to the Commandant of the Post at that Place who thanked me verry Kindly for bringing them but told me I must Get the money whitch I had [page torn] from the State of [page torn] he had no orders to Pay [page torn]used to gave me a recept [page torn] that I turned over [page torn]isnors. and with Some [page torn] Prevailed on him to [page torn] recept for the Prisoners [page torn] Enclose you a coppy of [page torn] gave me whit was all the Showing I Got for the trouble and expence I was at; The cittizens of this county are fiew but nevertheles they are always ready to do any servis that their Country calls on them for and only ask to be Paid back the money they have to pay out of their Pocketts. I paid out ov my own Pockett [page torn]expenses of Said Prisoners [page torn] about $150⁰⁰ one hundred [page torn] whitch left me with [page torn] and being a verry Poor [page torn] dilicate health and [page torn] to mantain I ful [page torn] the money verry mutch [page torn] furnished the Prisoners [page torn] during their Confinement in Jail for whitch She augh^t to be Paid. we only ask for Justice and nothing more
