You will find enclosed my returns for the last Btl of whiskey as I said in writing to you befor that I resign the place and would not accept it and dispense another Btl for all that the State owns.

In my Settlement on 1^st Jany the Gov private Sect. States I owe the state a Bdl of $35.95 This is cerainly an error, and the round about way he comes to the conclusion is enough to make a horse laugh, He says "to take 1/4 of sales is 31 ¹/₄ pr [ch?]. but to take 1/5 or 20 pr Ch. I get the 25% added on." I leave it to your own judgement.

I submitted the circular, My statement & the Gov's Private Sect to Judge Goodwin & Clerks at the Bank, to the Clerks of Tax in Kind for State and they all agree that the enclosed statement is correct. Yet I am willing to pay any ballance that may be shown to be due & get clear of the concern,—Please have my Bonds canceled I have two there. [gap] You must save me

5 gals of State Whiskey to make my Tinctures. I did not make a single drop I gave it away to families who were realy needing it and I thought I could get enough from you I will send Demijohn & Certificate in a few days
