The undersigned who was appointed by the Board of Police of Calhoun County Salt Agent for Said County, hereby Certifies that immediately after the publication of the Gen Salt Agent of the State, that he was ready and had made a distribution of the State Salt among the Several Counties of this State that he went to State [?] the General Salt Depot, and made application for, and paid for the distributure Share of the County of Calhoun, but owing to the ~~poess~~Mobile and O. R. Rail being in the employment of the Con-federate States and the great amount of freight that was waiting to be Shipped upon Said Road, it was impossible for him to get immediate transportation that Said Salt was left there, the Gen Salt Agent pro-mising to have it Shipped at his first opportuni-ty—And that Said Salt was Shipped to Okolona the nearest depot to our County, and upon being notified of its Arrival at Said depot I immedi-ately informed the Commissioners of Indigent fam-ilies of our Soldiers of the fact—who proposed and as I Know of my own Knowledge procured teams to transport to Calhoun County. There was within a few pounds of 10,000 lbs for Said County.
