W. R. Poindexter

Dear sir

I received your letter of the twenty first, where you state there has been a mistake in my account. I have never received, but one barrel of whisky, containing twenty five gallons; another barrel was sent to me, but fell into the hands of the enemy at Vaughan's Station and was destroyed before I ever saw it.

It was during Osburns raid. I have sent to the agent at Vaiden, three times since then for whisky and failed to receive it. Each time I was at an expense of eighty dollars, for travelling expenses so you see that the state is indebted to me although I make no claim against it.

I reported the loss of the barrel to the agent at Vaiden and thought that would be all suffi-cient. If he had have done his duty the mistake never would have occured. I send you enclo-sed a letter from the sherf of the county which I hope will be satisfactory. Please acknowledge receipt of this.
