Governor,

The Reserve Forces of Miss. are assembled at scooba to be armed & equiped. They are a fine body of men & well mounted. Properly equiped would do good service. Unfortu-nately most of the arms & equipments of the Confederate Government are at Montgomery, & the chief ordnance officer is not able to supply suitable armes or equipments, there are no cartrage Boxes or Belts. Understanding you had a large supply of arms & Equipments belonging to the state, I have directed the ordnance officer, Lt. Jno. Dozier, to apply to you, for such arms & equip-ments as you can furnish, & he might require for the Reserves, which will be prom-ptly returned by Major M^cCall chief ord-nance officer of the Department, ~~this he has promised~~ this he has promised, as I am informed, by Lt. Lt. Genl Taylor to request you to supply these Equipments & give you the assurance that they would be returned, I am just informed he is at Demopolis, & make the request myself. This is an important crisis, & I feel assured you will con-sider the emergensy of so much im-portance as to warrant you in turning over the state arms & Equipments to the Reserve Forces of the state, as a loan, to be returned, by the Con-federate states Government.
