To Gov Sharkey.

Sir.

As a military officer at this post in pursuance to your proclamation I this day administered the Amnesty oath to David Ames Judge of Probates for Oktibbeha County W. S. Janus Sheriff. E. Huntley Assessor & L. D. Friday Justice of the Peace. I also learn that W. C. Bishop Clerk of Probates has had the Oath administered to him by some one else.—I conceive it to be a duty incumbent on me to report that W. S. Janus, (Sheriff,) W. C. Bishop Clerk of Probates, & E. Huntly (Assessor) have been reported to me by sincere Union men as having been extremely bitter secessionists and that they are odious to the truly loyal sentiment of the county

These men have also acknowledged themselves to have been very ultra.

I believe the report made by these friends of the government and ask that full credence be given them through me.
