Governor, of Mississippi.

Esteemed sir,

some twenty odd years since, when you were spending the Summer, at your residence (for such season) near Mississippi-City,—you and your good Lady, made one or two visits on horseback, to the village of Biloxi—when and where, I had the advantage of making your ac-quaintance, at the house of my Father-in-law, old Capt Gilbert Morris—Mrs Morris & my wife, (formerly Miss Morris,) having a warm friendship for Mrs Sharkey—

Now Governor, this may seem a strange introduction to a matter of business—but I beg leave to predicate an application for an appoint-ment as "Commissioner of Deeds" for your state, on the memory you may retain of Capt Morris' family and your humble servant.

I have been many years a Notary Public in this city—and would be pleased to add to my present Office, that of Commissioner of Deeds, for the different States—should I receive

a Commission from you, on this peculiar mode of application, it will only add another, to the many evidences coming from your Fellow=citizens, to the Public, of your uniform kindness and Courtesey—and should this not be deemed worthy of attention, as an application I shall have the honor, I feel confident, of presenting names of such public and prominent men—certifying my eligibility and integrity as will satisfy your excellency, that I am worthy of being remembered.

In conclusion Jude Sharkey—Capt Morris died some eighteen years ago, Mrs M. is still living with me—in her 80^th year—my wife & 6 grown children—are all living and well—could I know that your kind and ex-cellent wife, that we all know—were living—with what earnestness, my wife and her mother & the under-signed, would assure her and yourself of our high regards—with great respect, I subscribe myself
