To his Excellency
Gov Sharkey

Dear Sir

I feel constrained to appeal to you for justice in matter in which I cannot get justice here. the following are the circumstances when the federal garrison came to Grenada in May I was carrying on the Blacksmiths business they took my shop broke up my business and upon going to the officers and protesting they or rather the Quarter Master said he was compelled to sh[page torn]e the command (viz the Horses of) and would pay me for the use of my shop and tools the Cavalry remained some month or six weeks during

which time they used my shop (one & sometimes both forges) almost constantly sence that time they have used my shop but only ~~only~~ as they have need of it infantry having taken the place of the Cavalry they have less work to do in that line. I went to Col Funk who was in command ~~he said~~ Lt Gardiner the Q M having as I thought gone he informed me he, G, would be back and attend to it. I went to him ^G when he returned^ some two or three times and ^he^ always had some excuse to put me off with—last tuesday he did leave without my knoledge I went to his seccesor he said he could do nothing with it I again appealed to Col Funk he said he had no power to do anything with it.

any satisfaction I appeal to you to Know if a man^s shop can with impunity be taken for five or six weeks destroying his buisness entirely and no compensa-tion whatever made simply because the Q. M. had left and I did not know it

The Cavalry came about the middle of May I think and left about the 20" of June during which time as befor sead they used my shop almost constantly sence that time only as the have need of it as before mention-ed

My shop is a brick shop and I suppose would rent for $250,00 or $300 pr year with the tools I would have been satisfied if they would have paid me fifty dollars but with the facts before you I submit the whole to the judgement of your Excellency
