Grand Gulf July 25^th 1865

To His Excellency
W^m L Sharkey Gov Miss

Dr Sir

With this I forward my application for pardon under the Pro=clamation of Prs Johnson. subject to your approval In it you will see I have made a plain statement of facts. I will state to you that ever scince 1850 until 1860 as @ Union Democrat I was apposed to secession. As a "State Rights man" when my state sececed I went with her & remained true to her & cause. I have taken the "Amnesty Oath" & rest assu=red as I was true to the Confederate Goverment ~~rest assured~~ I will be guilty of no act that will injure or insult that Government under which I live. I am satisfied that the Insti=tution of slavery was. I am anxious to procure or rather experiment in white labor in the cultiva-tion of Cotton next year. I would like to get 40 or 50 families & lease my land on long time

If not taking your valuable time too much I would like to have your advice what & how to do.

Any assistance I can render you or the Government rest assured it will be cheerfully & willingly ex=tended.
