Dear Judge

This will in-:troduce Judge William Burnet, late Special Treasury agent at this place. He is the same person whose letter was read to you in Washⁿ by Gen^l Denison, of whom he is a warm personal friend.

In making the Postal arrangements for the State, inland & on the River, I understand Gen^l Denison, who is the PM Gen^l, is much inclined to appoint Judge Burnet the Agent in the Department, but [consider?] it proper the suggestion should come from this direction.

Judge B is a very active, in-telligent, educated business man. In his two year residence here

he has formed quite an extended circle of acquaintances. He is the son of the late Jacob Burnet of Cincinnⁱ—whose name & fame are indentified with the history of the great State of Ohio, & are not inferior to any in the profession in the West,—& I consider him possessed of qualities that ren--der him particularily well qualified for the position in question. Your approbation is considered important, if not essential at the Department, & I venture to express the wish that it will not be withheld.
