To His Excellency W. L. Sharkey
Governor of Mississippi

Dear Sir

The undersigned petitioner respectfully begs that the Tax levied by your Excellency to defray the expenses of the Conven-tion, be remitted on a small family grocery store.

The undersigned is a machanic by trade (Saddle & harness maker) and has established a small family grocery store in connexion with his work shop, and his stock of groceries will not exceed $300⁰⁰ three hundred dollars. He has a large family to support, and the income of his trade alone at the present time will not enable him to make a support, and therefore respectfully begs ~~that~~ your Excellency to resist the Tax on his store. Hoping that the above request will meet with a favorable consideration
