Sir

Of the state tax for fiscal Year 1864 I had collected pryor to the cessation of the functions of my office as Sheriff the following Amt.

Viz Confederate notes $22,500.00
State Treas. notes 3,050.00
" Cotton notes 737.50

$26,287.50

Leaving in my hands Twenty six Thousand Two Hundred and eighty seven ⁵⁰/₁₀₀ Dollars in above mentioned funds. What disposition shall I make of it? Is there any legal officer in the state to receive it?

The movement of Troops in the county, and The big waters of the spring, prevented me from collecting within the time prescribed. And the subsequent suspension of the Authority then in force has prevented me from making any return of Amts. collected
