Dear Lewis

Below I render A statement of my property taken and destroyed by the Army of the United States Commanded by Genl ~~Grant~~ Sherman and others You are Aware ~~with~~ of the circumstances connected, knowing that my husband was a Loyal man and was murdered by a young disloyalist at the commencement of the war on the account of his being a loyal and true Citizen.

When Genl M^cPhersen had his Head Quarters at my house, he assured me that I could and should be paid for All the property taken and destroyed by the Armies of the union.

Now knowing your ability and opportunity would ask in the name of ^a^ poor widow with orphan Children And a relative to do what you think best and right. if you cant get any-thing through Congress perhaps we could ^get^ it by law—I know if any one in the rebellions States are entitled to pay for ^property^ it is me, however I will leave it all to & with you

Fenseing Negru Houses Overseers house and a good deal other property of less Value.

If there should be any chance for remuneration of said Property you shall be amply paid for your kindness and trouble.
