French Camp Miss. Choctaw County Sept 5^th 1865

His Excellency W. L. Sharky Dr Sir

During the year 1862 our Post Office at this place was made vacant by the resignation of S D Graham who was P. M. under the U. S. government At the request of M^r Graham I was appointed P. M. and gave "Bond" for three Hundred dollars I held the Office abut two years and resigned and have had no office civil or military before or since

I suppose my effects are liable to confiscation under the existing law and I most humbly ask your influence in procuring my pardon with the authorities I will state that I am a very poor man and have a large and helpless family entirely dependent upon my exertions for a support I have nothing to confiscate ex=cept a little household plunder and if that is taken from me I am to ^not able to purchase it again I am getting old and in very bad health and if you can do any thing in my behalf it will at all times be most gratefully remembered I was ever opposed to secession and the office at this place was worth nothing at all except as a convenience to the neighbors and as soon as I found it did
