D^r Sir

Upon your return from Washⁿ D. C. as you may remember, I handed you a petition for pardon accompanied with Pres: Johnsons amnesty oath—with the under=standing that you would forward the same to the President

A few days since I rec^d a letter from the Rev^d C. K. Marshall, which was transmitted to you, from which I infer that the pardon is delayed from a want of some action on your part—not fully understanding the ne=cessary preliminaries—you will oblige me by such instruction in the premises as may be necessary to be [assured?], it is important that the pardon be obtained at the earliest opportunity—any information on the subject will be gratefully received
