Hon William L Sharkey Governor.

I am just in Re-ceipts of "Tax Notice,, issued from your Office on the 14^th Instant, and, on examination I am satisfied has no application to my case, which is this, I was the duly Elected Assessor of Desoto County, when you were appointed Provisional Governor. I took the Oath of Office anen, under your Proclamation, but, finding it to my better interest to Move to Memphis I did so, at the same time promptly forwarding my Resignation to your Office. I have not yet received your acceptance of my Resignation but I live in Memphis—I have never done a Single Official Act, and have no Report to make and no Crime to answer for, under the 85^th,, Arti-cle 27^th Section Revised Code.
