To his Excellency A. Ames
Governor of the State of Mississippi

The Petition of undersigned Citizens of The Second Judicial District of Hinds County in said state would respectfully represent that at a Term of the Circuit Court held in said District in the year 1867, one Dora Sorsby, alias Dora Evans, a woman or girl of Color was arraigned before Said court and convicted upon the charge of Administering Poison with Intent to Kill the Infant child of one Samuel Sorsby and sentenced by said Court to imprisonment in the State Penitentiary for a Term of Four years. Your Petitioners believing from inform-ation derived upon the trial and otherwise that said Dora was improperly convicted and being unable to procure legal assist-ance to prosecute her defence in the High Court of Errors and appeals where the record in the case containing all the facts of the case is now on file (the same ~~was~~ being there dimissed for "want of Prosecution") Respect-fully ask your Excellency to grant to the Said Dora an Executive pardon and Re-prieve from all further punishment under the Judgment and Sentence of Said Circuit Court.
