His Excellency Jas. L. Alcorn
Governor of Mississippi,

Sir,

I have the honor to bring to your notice the case of the following named colored convict who is suffering very much from a gunshot wound received in the Union Army. I understand from Mr Richardson that the convict is very desirous, him-self, of going to his home; of the circum-stances of the case I know nothing, but understand he asserts his innocence.

George Lewis. Convicted at the October 1869 term of the Circuit Court of Adams County, of an "Assault with intent to kill" and sentenced to five years imprisonment.
