Dear Sir!

Trusting to Your kind heart I hope You will forgive an afflected sister such a bold imposition on Your valuable time. My brother Wm A. Moxest residing in Your state left me without news since last October. Having heard that he was appointed by You, as a detective officer, the anxiety of my heart increased by the many accidents on the Mississippi, knows no other way than to appeal to the kindness our Excellency—and to pray You to have the enclosed letter sent to its direction. Heaven may reward You for such an act of kindness, and
