To His Excellency
Ja^s L Alcorn

Dear Sir

I feel some delicacy & hesitation in writing to you on the subject matter of the petition of the Citizens of Wayne County, in relation to ^the^ removal of the Sheriff of that County. The Petitions set forth the cause of their grievances & Complaints and I am satisfied, they have prodduce just cause to appeal to you, for protection & the removal of the Sheriff, who is [unfor?] it, but normally ~~the~~ Sheriff, & Taylor, his uncle, acts & controuls all matters & affair of the office & Army

If you can afford the relief they pray for, great satisfaction & gratitude will be rewarded to you by them. I can assure you they are oppressed and

some thing ought to be done for them and they look to you for protection & relief &—Judge S Evans an old citizen & Lawyer of the place concurs with me. he is conveyant of all that is complained of, and is fully satisfied that relief as to be extended by the removal of the cause of Complaint & he unites with me in this letter &c
