His Honor J. L. Alcorn. Governor of Mississippi.

Your Honor.

As a Soldier of the U. S. Army I take liberty in adressing those few lines I have served from the 16^th of July 1855 to the 6^th of July 1867, without intermission, I participated in the memorable Mormon campaign in the winter of 1857 to 58. when our rations were at the lowest and we must have recourse at times to a piece of meat from a dead mule or horse in order to apease our hunger. During the late rebellion I participated in eighteen engagments. Through privations and hardships my constitution is shattered and I am not capable of working hard, therefore I would respectfully request your honor for some easy kind of situation. I served during the entire time in the 10^th Regiment U. S. Infantry.
