From the Mississippi Department of Archives and History Governor Alcorn Collection. Letter from J. V. Shepherd to Mississippi Governor James L. Alcorn, informing Alcorn that the county supervisors have passed an order making all state certificates receivable for all county dues. Shepherd notes that some of the certificates are held by persons in neighboring states and the contractors who have worked on the new courthouse for Tippah County, Mississippi are demanding the remainder of their pay.
