Dear Sir,

By the provisions of Chapter N^o 65 of the Revised Code of 1871, you have the appointment of one of the Codifiers, To superintend the printing, and arrange the Index.

Without importuning your Excellency, in any way, I wish, in this form, to announce that, should your Excellency consider the appointment of myself to that position Conducive to the proper arrangement of the Code, I would undertake the labor with thankfulness, and perform the work faithfully.

My training as a practical printer, and my long expe=rience in Indexing would, I think enable me to perform this labor with credit to my=

self and advantage to the public.

A good index is, by far, the most important part of a Code of Laws—Without such an index, the volume would be like a sealed book.

Whatever your Excellency may do in this matter will be satisfactory to myself. If one of my associates should be selected, of course, I would have no cause of Complaint.
