Some two Weeks since I addressed Attorney General Morris Asking His Opinion in regard to ordering & holding an election for Corporation officers of our Town receiving No. Reply to My enquiries I beg to trouble you and earnestly hope that you can and will as Soon as Convience Will Admit give the information sought

The last legislature of our state Granted a Charter or rather a recharter to the Town of Osyka and I would Respectfully ask Your excellency's attention to Section 2^d of said Charter In this Section It is required, that the first election for Officers of the Corpor-ation held under this act shall take place on the first Monday of May following the passage of said act, The said act being approved 20^th April 1871 No Official Notice of the Act of incorporation reached Me until after the time specified for holding [illegible: page folded]

election Therefore No election Was had. Now the exact Words of the Charter Sec 2^d says.."Provided that the 1^st election for officers held under this act shall be held on the 1^st Monday of May next (After its Passage) or as soon thereafter as it can lawfully be done As We have some Contention and Clamor among our good Citizens Cerning this election I await your excellency's opinion to know at what time said election shall take place
