His Exellency Governor Alcorn
State of Mississippi.

Dear Sir,

I respectfully refer to the conversation I had with your Exellency a few days ago, in regard to a petition of our German fellow citizens to the Government of Germany, to establish a consulate here for the States of Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas, in which petition my name is mentioned as a proper person to fill said official position. This petition has been signed up to now by nearly four hun-dred business houses and persons and I take the liberty respectfully to ask your Exellency for a kind recommendation as Governor of your State.

I have the honor respectfully to refer to the let-ter of Gen^l Morgan and Judge H. S. Lee and also to the copy of a certificate of our Hon. Judges here, the original of which I had the honor to show your Exellency at the interview I had a few days ago.

I may mention, that I act as commissioner of Deeds of your State.

Hoping a favorable reply of the hands of your Exellency as soon as convenient, I have the honor to be your most obedient servant.

Buttinghaus of this City at the Earnest solicitation of a Majority of his fellow German Citizens is about to make application to the German Government, for appointment as Consul, residence Memphis. He is well fitted for the office, speaks & writes several languages a true Union Man, held offices of trust here when I was A. A. Genl of this District. his appointment would be hailed with pleasure by all good citizens, please add your name to his paper and I shall take it as a personal favor
