UNDER AN ACT OF THE LEGISLATURE AUTHORIZING THE
COMPILATION OF A NEW AND OFFICIAL MAP OF THE STATE

New Orleans 22^d June 1871

Gov Alcorn

Dear Sir

I have the new map nearly ready, and will have a copy certainly ready for your inspection by the first week in July—I have been delayed for some time waiting for the Census returns from Washington of the population in whites & blacks of each County and only got the information by mail yesterday—Then again, I have been in communi-cation with every portion of the State having sent my proof sheets in every quarter for the purpose of having revisions—& corrections &c—and the tardiness with which replies have been made has been another source of delay, but all this will make the map so much the better—

I will endeavor to visit Jackson early next week & confer with you about some points. If Mr. Hewson is with you please present my regards
