Gov Alcorn,

I have only a partial acquain-tence with you, but feel it my duty to call on you for help for the people of this place. There is a reign of perfect terror here now and has been for ten days past, The Col Church a very nice building has been burned to the ground an old grey headed Col man shot down in his own door and his own yard, Several others have been waylaid and whipped unmercifully, and all sorts of crimes have been committed with impunity. The parties who commit these des-perate deeds are well known, but the civil Officers are afraid to take any steps towards suppressing these outrages and indeed it would a very hazardous undertaking. We need the U S. troops, and we need them at once, please Gov if you can send us a few Soldiers do so at once
