Dear Sir,

I have written Gov Alcorn several letters in relation to my capturing a murderer from Calhoun County, and sent all of the proof. I understand that a reward was offered for his capture by the Governor. The name of the murderer was George Hamby. You will do me a great favor by writing me at once and letting me know how the matter stands.

Dear Sir:

I have written you upon two occasions in relation to my captureing one George Hamby a murderer from Calhoun County—In my last I made out all of the proofs and had them properly authenticated. It has been told me that you offered a reward for the apprehension of the murderer, and if such be the facts I am anxious to learn, Gov I have never asked pay for services except in this case and the Gewen case—and if you will take the trouble to look at the Gewen papers you will find some strong letters of recommendation from Judge J A Orr & others. I have been a detective for five years—and have never asked for pay—but if the reward has been offered for Hamby I would like to get it, as I was at great expense and trouble in arresting him
