The Bearer Colo W. H DeRochement an Attorney at Law of this place visits Your Execellency for the purpose of laying before you the petitions of Citizens for the release of Richard Gillim confined in the State's prision on a charge of Forgery the facts will be presented by Col^d. DeRochemont to you in the matter and we earnestly entreat your Excellency to grant unto said Gillim Executive clemency as we believe he is entitled to such and as in duly bound will ever pray.

Enclosed I have the Honor to hand to Your Excellency Two petitions, one & of the Officials of Monroe County Miss. and of this County,, the object fully Set forth in the petition of the Citizens of Monroe County—Allow me to say to Your Exlencey,, that the Young Man who we ask you to pardon is as stated unable to read or write and I can assure Your Exellency he was made the tool of Men who were our Ennemis during the late war and are yet,, who would not hesitate to plunge us again into a worse possible condition than previous to the war if in their power which thank God—

is not. the Young Man Gillem I can assure you is a fit subject for Your clemency: and we ask you in the name of the Republicans who have signed the petitions , in the name of Justice & right to grant a pardon to the Young man now in Your Penetentiary at Jackson by the name of Richard Gillem—he is worthy of it. And Your Excellency will not forget it is Your friends who ask it of you and the friends and surporters of the great principals you represent—for the merit of my statement and my standing politicaly & morraly I can refer you to Hon Geo. E. Spencer—U. S Senator Hon Charles Haye—M. C Hon Jas Rapeir M C Hon C. C Sheets M C and to every prominent Republican in Alabama
