Gov, A. K. Davis:

Dear Sir:

It seems ^that^ Kavanaugh Kenedy had an altercation with John Shoup at Oxford Miss. which resulted in the latters reciev-ing two flesh wounds, one in the thigh & the other in the left shoulder, Kenedy is a boy about eighteen years of age, and rather small to his age though quite a youngster he was and is an outspoken republican and on that acct, he has many enemies amoung the democrats. This altercation commenced in which his brother was a canidate for Constable for Beat no 1 he was nominated by the republican convention and was running on the republican ticket all this had a ten-dency to inflame his antagonist (John Shoup) It is not necessary for me to

inform you of the bitter feelings that exists in the breasts of the oppositionists to the republican party at in time of an election. Now I have known this young man ever since he was about ten years of age and he has always been an inoffencive and unasuming boy. There was a petiton presented to me too sign for his relief, but I thought if I could do any good at all for him I could do more by writing you this letter. I heartily goin with his friends in the name of Justice and with petitioning his release. I only know from what I have heard of the affair, but, have been satisfied by those who may be depended upon on the account of their truthfullness for any statement that may make or that they have made. With this I close hopping that what you have before you may constrain your sympathys in behalf of this Juvenile offender
