Sir—

His Excellency Governor Howard has handed me for reply your favor of the 15" inst, and in answer, I have the honor to report—

Assessed valuation of Realty—	$243,658,190—
,, ,, ,, Personalty—	84,872,369—
The State indebtedness—	2,563,500—

There is no specific tax to meet bonds and interest; the expenditures for this purpose being included in the general tax levy.

The expenditures of the State government for fiscal year ending April 30^th,, 1874 were— $688,648.53—

The tax to meet the same is 15 cents on each $100—of the valuation above named.
