Dear Governor:

The Chancery Clerks Office of this county, has become Vacant, by the death of Capt J C Harrison and it may devolve upon you to appoint his Sucessor until the Board of Supervisors Should Order a Special Election, or until the regular Election takes place. In the meantime I will take the liberty to make you a few Suggestions. In the death of Capt Harrison we have all lost a true friend and a good Republican, and one whose place may be hard to fill. He leaves a widow and five children who will miss him as a devoted husband and a Kind and providing Father. In justice to his Memory his friends ought to Sustain the recomendation of the appointment of Mr P? Moore, who has for many years been deputy Clerk under Capt Harrison, with the understanding that the proceeds of the Office, after deducting the expense of running the Same, Should go to the widow and orphans. The gentlemen I refer to has been employed in the Chancery Clerks Office for a Number of years and is as familiar with it as any one can be made; in fact his competency and unspotted character and reputation

Cannot be questioned by any One, and I can assure You that his app-ointment will give general Satisfaction to every body. I am assured that Mr Moore will accept the appointment under these conditions. He has been in Capt Harrisons family for Sometime and his known devotion toward them in connection with his acknowledged repu-tation for honesty and principle, would be a guaranty of itself that he would carry out the obligation Strictly. I have not had an oportunity of Seeing any of the leading Republicans of this county but I cannot believe that any of them would make any objections to the Suggestions herein made, for he (Capt Harrison) was the friend of them all during his life, and contributed no little to their Success. It would be a tribute of respect paid to his memory, (the appointment of Mr Moore) which would not only have merit, in the assistance it would render to his family, but would also be appreciated by his many friends in this County. I do not know, Governor, that I have any claim, to have Suggestions or recommendations noticed by You, but I will Say here, that I am candid in what I State, and fully believe that Mr Moore's appointment under the aforesaid conditions, would be productive of much good feeling and harmony in our once disorganized County.
