This is to certify that Mr John Regan in Madison County Jail is in very bad health & has been for several months His health can not improve. During his confinement in Jail for obvious reasons—His time having very nearly Expired—I recommend he be released from confinement lest he should become hopelessly diseased by longer confinement

TO THE Sheriff of Madison County

Greeting:

Whereas, at the Sept. Term, 1874, of the [gap] Circuit Court of Madison County, in said State, John Regan was convicted of the crime of Petit Larceny, and by the Court sen-tenced to sixty days ~~years~~ confinement in the ~~State Penitentiary~~ ^County Jail^;

Now therefore, I, Adelbert Ames Governor of the State of Mississippi, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Consitution and Laws of said State, and for divers good and sufficient reasons, me, theredo moving, do grant unto the said John Regan a full pardon for said crime of Petit Larceny and do authorize and direct you, on receipt of these presents, to release him from confinement.

In testimony whereof, I have here=unto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Mississippi to be affixed, this 16" day of November 1874.

Be it Remembered, That heretofore, to wit, at the September Term, A. D. 1874, of the Circuit Court of Madison County, State of Mississippi, on the 10^th,, day of October A. D. 1874, the following order of said Court was made, as appears of record, viz:

John Regan

Now comes the State by her Attorney, also, comes the defendant with his attorney; and Said defendant having withdrawn his former plea of not guilty, now pleads guilty of Petit Larceny—

It is therefore ordered by the Court that said John Regan, be taken hence by the Sheriff of this County, to the Jail of this County, and be therein confined and kept according to the statutes governing the same for the full period of sixty days, from and after this day, And that the costs of this prosecution be levied of his estate

In Testimony Whereof, I hereunto sign my name and affix my seal of office, at the city of Canton, on the 16^th,, day of November A. D. 1874.
