EXECUTIVE OFFICE,
JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI.

To the Superintendent of the Penitentiary:

Whereas, at the April Term, 1874, of the Circuit Court of Noxubee County, in this State, Ja^s Long was convicted of the crime of Assault & Battery with intent to Manslaughter, and by the Court sentenced to Nine Months ~~years~~ imprisonment in the State Penitentiary; AND WHEREAS, in accordance with Section 13 of An Act of the Legis-lature, entitled "An Act for the regulation, control, and support of the Penitentiary," approved March 28th, 1872, the Superintendent of the Penitentiary has reported that there are no marks of demerit on the roll against said Ja^s Long;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ~~RIDGLEY C. POWERS~~^Adelbert Ames^, Governor of the State of Missis-sippi, by virtue of the above recited Act, do shorten the term of the sentence of the said Ja^s Long, at the rate of three days for each month; and do authorize and direct you to discharge him accordingly.

In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Missis-sippi to be affixed, this 4^th_" day of December, 1874.
