Ashland Dec. 7^th 1874

His Excellency A. Ames,
Jackson,
Miss;

Dear sir;

The County levy for 1874 will be sufficient to pay all the debts of the County of Benton, except a part of the Teachers Salaries, caused by receiting us excess of the 4 mill tax, which was made a part of the estimate, and no income fund except sale tax of Benton.

There will also be a debt of $5000~ to be paid in 1875 by contract, as balance due for building court house.

No manufacturing, or other interest by which values will be increased.

Rate of taxation very high, 4 per cent. including State & County:
