Dear Sir

I have been now incarcerated in Warren County Since Dec Last On or about two weeks to Chrismas on a Charge of murder. Killing one W^m Gates on the 8 day of De^c last pettisioner firther States that the Shoting was Done in Self Defence and was done about the time of the Riot I under other^s at the Same time of Shoting obeying order^s giving By my Superior officers I was compel to Defend to Save my life the Shoting was done in Self Defence, & By order of my Commander he charge One John Johnson which is now left the

County & State and the pettisioner futher States that he has never had any preliminary Examination and it seames like there is no One trying to presicute or Do anything towards prosicuting the case pettisioner futher ask His Excellency to take Such Steps as you deam neccessary to have to have me Released it is no teling how long I may Remain in hear without having Justice Done me Unless your Excellency take some Steps in the case I look to your Excellency to envestigate this matter and see that Justice is Done me I have for an Examination and Could not get it I Do not know the reason I have not had any I have wanted one all the time I have never been Commited that is I was Just taken up and Brought for safe keeping.
