His Excellency A. Ames,
Governor of Mississippi

Sir:—

At the general election for County and State officers for Mississippi in November 1873, I was elected a Justice of the Peace of District N^o 1 Attala County for the term of two years Commencing the first Monday in January 1874.

I left Miss. for this city on the second inst. and I find my-self in a more invited and pleasant field for the practice of the legal profession than Miss. afforded me, so I have concluded to stay here and write you this letter to tender my resignation to the responsible office to which I was elected, to take effect from this date.
