Enclosed I hand you a petition signed by various parties for the repreive of James Fox & Adam. Gilson. sentenced to confinement in our County Jail.

I convesed with Judge Orr. on this matter and said to me to say to you that ^he'd^ heartily endored the granting of the repeive. In the Case of Mr. Fox he has been confined in Jail for the past five month, & has suffered a great deal both Physically & mettally over this sub-ject. & I am of the opinion that it is almost murder to keep him in prison any great length of time.

Judge Orr in passing the sentence could only act as the law directs him to do

and will if referred to him give it his hearty approval for the reprieve.

Maj. H. B. Whitfield District Atty also concurs in the matter. & says that he would recomend the release.

As to Adam. Gilson he was not a party guilty in the transaction, but was a colored man hired in the Jail and did not nor could not look to the consequences of an Escape.

There are other petitions to get them released. I have not tried to get many petioner on this as I could not see the necesity of it.
