Honored Sir, In the year 1872, a young man by the name of Rainwaters made his escape from your state prison, (or as I learned) escaped from Gen^l Forest who it was said had a number of convicts at work on a rail road. In the latter part of the Summer of the same year ^he^ ~~stole~~ stole a mule and a gun in Lauderdale County Miss. and was captured with them in possession near Shubuta Miss. and lodged in Meridian Jail from whence the proper authorities carried him back to the State prison to serve out his unexpired term of imprisonment Said Rainwaters is about five feet five or six inches high—dark skin—black hair and large white eyes. Has said Rainwaters served out his time, or has he escaped a second time? If he has escaped is there a reward for him? and if so how much?

Think I can identify him in this county, & will with the proper information from your Honor. and return him to the authorities at Jackson Miss.
